Wait - SEO As A Career?
Search Engine Optimization Career!
Before the decision to learn SEO entered my bizarre existence, I hadn’t discovered too many career options that cater to my…uhem…obsessive side with the umph I need to get me out of bed in the morning. I mean, I am not the type of girl to tap wildly on my keyboard while someone else gets the bank account. I don’t enjoy saying, “Good morning Sir, what can I do to help you make your millions while I wallow in oodles of noodles?”
Before I stumbled across SEO, I had a bad habit of wondering aimlessly around the planet without ever being satisfied…(must be due to mania. That’s yet, another story…)
Ok, today I’m not going to be too dramatic. My sole purpose in today’s SEO Blog is to offer the awareness that has rearranged my “I don’t wanna grow up” attitude. I’m going to list reasons to choose SEO as a career. It would be impossible to drop every reason. These are reasons from Kalena Jordan:
1) The Search Industry is HOT - “One of the main reasons for the current dot-com boom is the skyrocketing growth of the search engine industry. No longer the territory of geekdom, search has exploded into the mainstream over the past few years and businesses are falling over themselves to get seen by online searchers. And they’ll pay big bucks to search engines for the privilege….”
2) It’s Considered one of Four Jobs on the Cutting Edge - “According to an article on MSN Careers, the position of Search Engine Optimizer is considered one of four jobs on the cutting edge right now. Who gave it this title? A representative from the world’s largest specialized recruitment firm - Robert Half International Inc…..”
3) The Pay is Fantastic - “A job in the search industry can be unbelievably lucrative. There are quite literally more jobs than there are skilled marketers and salaries can skyrocket to almost embarrassing levels’…..”
4) You Don’t Need a College Degree - “Because the search industry is relatively young, there are only a handful of online courses and certifications offered in the field of Search Engine Marketing (Search Engine College being one training provider)….” And, Aaron Wall’s training program is well worth the effort for sure.
5) You Can Learn it all Online - “Everything you need to know to become a Search Engine Marketer, you can learn online. All the information is out there, you just have to find it. To become an expert in SEO / SEM, you need to do research, research and more research. Read everything you can get your hands on relating to search on a daily basis, including articles, forums, ebooks, blogs and newsfeeds…..”
I always find an invaluable amount of education and resources in the SEO forums. Today I’m going to recommend Aaron Wall’s SEO Book. There’s not a question under the sun that you can ask that won’t be answered with expertise. It’s a fun learning environment that’s slam packed with SEO education.
