Controversy

Sunday, April 13th, 2008**note: There is more than just Sphinn commentary in this post. The commentary is lengthy, but relevant to the conclusion. Although, I DO address Eli’s post towards the end, if you’d like to breeze past the Sphinn stuff**
There’s been some sensitive discussion in Sphinn commentary that followed my post yesterday.
This is the post by Eli Feldblum that initially made me check out who Sphunn the crapola. hmmmm.
Rob (evilgreenmonkey, mod at Sphinn) Desphunn the post because he said the subject was inappropriately submitted and should have been addressed by way of the contact form.
Prior to his Desphinning it, he had already stated this in the comment area, which I replied by letting him know that in the future, I would do so.
After some words were exchanged in the commentary between a select number of people, the post was promptly deleted.
Without further ado, I managed to salvage all but maybe 4 of the closing comments that existed before we were wiped off Sphinns map:
There Are Sock Puppets (spammers) Among Us Posted By: SpostareDuro

Sphinn has been invaded by unwanteds..and they are affecting the reputation of people I’d like to think are trustworthy.

Those were blatant and obvious sock puppets - didn’t bother to take the time to even upload avatars, no submissions of their own, only sphinns are for search engine watch posts.
Sock Puppets Exposed
Saturday, April 12th, 2008What is a sock puppet?
update: Sphinn has deleted the sock puppets in question.
(Sphinn commentary going on here.)
Update #2: evilgreenmonkey has seen fit to also delete the Sphinn post, but I have saved all of the commentary that took place, with the exception of maybe the last 4 comments. I will post in further detail hopefully in the morning. (13th)
Right now I’m hungry and need foooood.
To be continued..
Take note of THESE Sphinners who were ALL voting for “SEO Spam is Good”

Sphinn / User / Avromi / User’s
Sphinn / User / Chatch / User’s
Sphinn / User / mayerreich / User’s
Sphinn/User/yosef/User’s (who came in on the same day as mayerreich)
PS: They all seem to have one man in common:
Sphinn / User / FeldBum / User’s
(as far as the Sphunn posts? Considering the reputation of those involved, (SEW) I don’t even want to go there. I hope they do not know or condone these puppets.)

The Thief That’s Trademarking the Term SEO
Friday, April 11th, 2008Someone is trying to trademark the term “SEO”!
“He has passed preliminary review and is now in a waiting period set aside for anybody to register their objections with the Trademark Office.”
If this happens, what would we call ourselves?
Nick, of Essence SEO thinks it should we should call ourselves “Discovery Portal Tuners”
What would you call us?
I’ve left my suggestions in the comment area of the post, so be sure to visit and leave your suggestions too.

Yahoo! Microsoft Face Off
Monday, April 7th, 2008It looks like Yahoo! is standing their ground.
They promptly responded to Microsoft’s aggression..
“[W]e have continued to make clear that we are not opposed to a transaction with Microsoft if it is in the best interests of our stockholders. Our position is simply that any transaction must be at a value that fully reflects the value of Yahoo!, including any strategic benefits to Microsoft, and on terms that provide certainty to our stockholders .”
They concluded by expressing their confidence in their stackholders..
“We are confident that our stockholders understand that our independent Board is best positioned to objectively and knowledgeably evaluate our Company’s alternatives and to maximize value.“

Microsoft - Not Just for Breakfast Anymore
Monday, April 7th, 2008I’ve just read “Microsoft Gets Tired of Waiting” by Kevin Newcome (Search Engine Watch)
Micrsosoft is tired of twiddling their thumbs while Yahoo! bakes cookies.
As of Saturday, Steve Ballmer (Microsoft CEO) took a more aggressive approach in persuading Yahoo’s submission.

Yahoo! has 19 days left (April 26th 08) to cooperate with the program or feel the wrath of a hostile take-over.
Steve:
“Given these developments, we believe now is the time for our respective companies to authorize teams to sit down and negotiate a definitive agreement on a combination of our companies that will deliver superior value to our respective shareholders, creating a more efficient and competitive company that will provide greater value and service to our customers. If we have not concluded an agreement within the next three weeks, we will be compelled to take our case directly to your shareholders, including the initiation of a proxy contest to elect an alternative slate of directors for the Yahoo board.”

Entrecard Widget Image Thief
Saturday, April 5th, 2008Just fyi..
There’s is thieving going on in Entrecard.
I received Entrecard mail from Layne (Reward Rebel).
It seems someone else is using my widget image as his own. Layne had written to this guy to pull him up about it before writing to me.
I wrote to him about it as well. When I didn’t get a response, I reported it to Entrecard Admin. No response from them yet either. Maybe because it’s the weekend. fingers crossed.
Bill visited this guys site and grabbed his telephone number. He called this guy (in India) to see what he intended to do about it. The guy assured Bill that he would change it.
He has yet to do so.
If you intend to advertise on my widget, do not be deceived!

Sphinn Underdogs Part2
Sunday, March 16th, 2008This is a follow up to yesterdays post “Are You The Underdog in Sphinn? Where’s YOUR Vote?“.
![]()
There have been many responses and varied opinions. So I thought I’d address them one by one by way of a part 2 post.
Barry: Thank you for acknowledging that it’s a ‘good cause’ and something ‘we all need to work on whatever our position on the totem pole’. Your attitude is all I am promoting here. I ahve a lot of respect for you and it grows daily.

March 15th, 2008 at 7:03 pm editI agree with your points, but I have to agree with Annies points. All social networks work that way; Top diggers, stumblers or sphinners have authority and more friends and sometimes call the shots.
It’s the “social” factor in social networks.
If it weren’t like that, these networks wouldn’t be social.I don’t say I find it fair though, but - yes - that’s life….
Are You the Underdog in Sphinn? Where’s YOUR Vote?
Saturday, March 15th, 2008I was in Sphinn, voting and learning as usual. And I came across this post written by someone that goes by the name Rishil. He had submitted this same topic at some point before the present post in reference. Of course he added a bit more to the present post, although not substantially so.
He wrote the post in question and submitted it to Ann Smarty’s site (considered to be an “A-list” blogger) I am not going into details about the post here.
What does concern me at this point is the commentary that followed. (or view here)
A commenter had observed:
“Just found it interesting that the “more original” piece drew 7 sphinns altogether, this one drew 9 in 2 hours. Quite a bit disappointing… ”
He went on to say:
“The problem is, the first article about this topic (which I mentioned) wasn’t really sphunn by many people.
I’d love to think of Sphinn as a site for perceptive professionals who will take care of pushing worthy stuff to the main page. So even if I only read what’s hot, I still won’t miss anything.
But in many ways, it’s the same herd mentality as everywhere else. If your an A-list blogger and/or a good networker, your posts will go hot with 40-45 sphinns even if they are about an upcoming keynote address, or covering a new feature in the Google SERP days after it has been thoroughly covered.
Learning How to Make Love (SEO)
Tuesday, March 4th, 2008I’m ranking a #8 for “learning how to make love”
I know. I get a bit bipolar sometimes. Ok, maybe more than sometimes. Give a girl a break. I’m improving ok? Sheesh..
Why would I want to advertise that I am ranking for “learning how to make love“? (lol, why would anyone?-wink)
This morning I had a jealousy search relapse. You know, getting the scoop on a chick that flirts with Bill pretty much on a regular basis (or was). By the time that some of you SEO/Mers read this, you’ll know who she is. No names need mentioned.
So I began this search and found a link and a blurb on the first page.
She is proudly advertising her high ranking for two words. One is porn and the other in a ‘flip-side’ and coupled order would be SEO. (not chancing it sry-wink)
I have no idea why it would make me jealous to think that my man (Bill Slawski, in case you don’t know) would have a flirty girlfriend that ranks highly for that query and is proud of it? I mean, silly me, ey?
Anywho, once I really thought this through I realized that there’s a post in all of this that expresses my true nature. Not a fleeting jealous post that could damage my relationship with my readers or with the most beautiful man I’ve ever had the pleasure of smooching with.
Get to the point!
What’s The A-List Got That You Aint Got?
Friday, January 11th, 2008I love organic search engine optimization because it’s something that your mind and hands have control of, not your pockets as opposed to PPC and other paid options.
This site’s original design was to strictly engage in sharing SEO as I also learn. But, my directives have expanded as I have expanded with what I have observed. And, as promised, I pass it on to you.
My understanding of SEO strategies have been significantly enhanced by social networking environments that I have had the priveledge of becoming a member of.
Presently you can find me in the following ‘zones’ (My personal profile links):
Stumbleupon (#2 main hangout)
MySpace
LiveSpace
Facebook
MyBlogLog
Twitter
Sphinn (#1 main hangout)
AuthSpot (my poetry Username Kimberly Bock)
A-Listers
There are a predominant number social networking blog posts that have received A-list attention and for good reasons.
An A-lister’s support/vote may apply to the following reasons -
The Blogger receiving the support have:
Established themselves as having leadership qualities
Unique writing abilities
Actively proven prominence by means of successful implementation of the strategies they promote
Brainstormers with technical intelligence that’s not always clearly understood, but are acknowledged by the A-listers as “knowing their sh*t”
Writers for reputable sources
Ones with an earned position after longterm determination
promoter of others within their ‘zone’ providing interaction that’s supportive to those involved

The Good Guy

March 15th, 2008 at 5:57 pm editA good cause, Kimberly, and one that we all need to work on, whatever our position on the totem pole. I go solely by titles, so if someone wants to get my attention, then have a creative title. I’m not concerned by who started the sphinn entry or who is supporting, it’s the content that counts. Thanks for this.
