The Joy of Seeing traffic Results!

By Kimberly Bock | January 9, 2008

I surfed into compete.com today to check my “Learning SEO Basics” improvements or lack thereof as they have listed.
I am happy to say that what I saw was a great increase in traffic. I use other means of traffic analysis but am introducing you to two things here today. The beauty of FireFox’s “SEO for FireFox “and the free benefits of “Compete.com” to gather beginner level stats.

SEO for FireFox:

This nifty little tool will allow you to view your stats, and everyone else’s, all over the internet! it’s simple to use and it’s free.

Here’s the scoop:

•Page Rank: Obvious, if not…you’re in the right place, just ASK ME ABOUT IT

•Google cache date is an actual snapshot of the page as Google last crawled the web also providing the date it was crawled.

•del.icio.us: How many times Del.icio.us has bookmarked your URL

•Age: This shows the first pages to be indexed by Internet Archive (archive.org). If they have it, most likely Google has it too.

Yahoo! Links: An estimate of how many links you have out there floating around Yahoo! for the world to see

Yahoo! .edu Links: Shows any .edu links pointing to your domain

Yahoo! .gov Links: Same as .edu concept but is .gov

Yahoo! Page Links: Links pointing to your page(s)

Yahoo! .edu Page Links: .edu pages pointing to your domain

Technorati: Number of links from blog to your site from Technorati bloggers

Alexa: Website traffic results (same concept as compete.com)

Compete.com Rank: Traffic

Compete.com Uniques: Unique page visitors

•Cached: Which pages of yours have been cached

dmoz: Uses Google’s Directory to find the number of your pages and URL’s listed within DMOZ (Open Directory Project)

Bloglines: Shows ‘Blogliners‘ that have subscribed to your page(s)

Wikipedia: Shows if you have any pages/URL’s within the great Wikisphere

•dir.yahoo.com: Shows if your site is located in the Yahoo! Directory

MSN: Same as Yahoo! above

MSN .edu Links: Same as Yahoo! above

MSN: .gov Links: Same as above

MSN Page Links: same as above

MSN .edu Page Links: same as above

You need FireFox to enjoy this little puppy though. You can download FF here.

Compete.com

Here’s the magical little booster I saw this morning when I used my little SEO for FF tool this morning and saw my visitor traffic flow over at Compete.com:

My traffic has increased by 335% in nearly 45 days!

Well, enjoy your new SEO tool because, thats’ right….FireFox rocks!

See? Learning SEO IS fun!

As always, please don’t be scared to comment here. No Newbie question is a dumb Newbie question here! Newbies are what learningseobasics.com is here for. So we can learn and grow together!

We have been using SEO Firefox for some time, and we find it very useful when it comes to doing market research. It’s a great way to go through the SERPS and see what your competition is up to and how they have accomplished top rankings.
