How Will Your Customer Find You?
By Kimberly Bock | March 24, 2008
If you search for a term in a search engine, the results of that search will show
- Links to relevant pages
- Snippets of text beneath the links (description)
It’s been understood that the snippets of text are taken from
- META description tag
- From the page itself
But what if you go to a search engine, search for a specific term, click on a choice link from those results, and find that the queried term isn’t on the page itself?
It could be because a search engine may be using the anchor text from links that are pointing to a page to determine the relevancy of that search.
Bill Slawski of SEO By The Sea discusses this concept more thoroughly with his post “Using Anchor Text to Determine the Relevance of a Page“.
Until later, have fun learning SEO!
