Reputation vs Stumbleupon

By Kimberly Bock | March 8, 2008

Reputation vs Stumbleupon
Shari Voigt of “Express Marketing Memo Blog” has been a Stumbleupon friend of mine for quite some time. We have discussed the negative goings ons in depth so we can try to come up with useful strategy to improve upon our presence there as well as to also improve other Stumblers experience.

She has written a 2 part series called “The Two Faces of Stumbleupon“.

The first is pretty much about reputation management. Some SEO Stumblers have been under fire by SEO/M haters that enjoy tagging your submissions as being porn, AIDS or some other unsavory tag. When this happens, whoever has the Stumbleupon toolbar sees your post (or your actual NAME) as being tagged with this negative labeling. This generates a bad rep of course..So what can be done about it?

The second is her interaction with one of SUs ‘tagging police‘..(not really called that of course)

She had some conversations with him so she can pass the information on to us. How we can have a better user experience there, what SU is really designed to offer, and how we can more likely improve our presence there.

If you are an active Stumbleupon user or plan to become one, do yourself a favor and read these two posts.

The Two Faces of StumbleuponPart2

Until later, have fun learning!

SU has a devoted following because it’s fun, unique and easy to use. Unfortunately, it’s also easy to abuse, both by those that truly spam the system and by a select and vocal group who feel that they should have sole right to decide content for the rest of us.

Thanks for calling attention to my posts, Kimberly! With so many people talking about StumbleUpon lately, it’s my hope that it’ll become a become a better experience for everyone.

Btw. these folks hate anybody who’s diferent in any way, I’ve seen plenty of people being innocent of “doing SEO” attacked viciously under bizarre pretexts. These trolls are the same people who in real life will shoot at immigrants at the Mexican border. They are the minute men of the Internet. They are approx. 50 but they terrorize a community of millions.

I didn’t realize they extended themselves so far!
