Learn SEO to Protect Our Environment

Learn SEO to Protect Our Environment? What?
There are a lot of people, especially in Stumbleupon, that seem to think that SEO is used only to make money, increase traffic, to spam, to promote selfish interests, and to reciprocate greed and one-way desires.
I’ve spent quite a bit of time thinking of ways to make them see how off-base they are. Trying to think of some miraculous blog post, sentence or offering of peace that will convince them of otherwise.
Then it dawned on me…
I can’t.
I can’t blame them for not knowing that SEO can be beneficial to humankind. Not just for money making and greed. I can’t blame them for not knowing the legitimate good that SEO can do other than boosting traffic or filling our bank accounts.
I have been counterproductive and have thought from the same ‘box‘ that is easy for us all to get stuck in. (and I hate box thinking)

So I have decided to optimize my thinking. No more drama (thanks Mary J : my fav song).
I recently wrote a post at “Yicrosoft Directory Girl“. I’m sure that the title of the post was unappealing to the SEO haters in SU. It was called, “Stumbleupon SEO Haters Don’t Know They are SEOs“.
The post was designed to show that Stumbelupon acts as a search engine. I gave examples of how each member performs SEO without being aware of it.SEO haters gave negative reviews of course.
A couple of the reviews:
- “It is not about what we are doing things we do on SU. It is a matter of “Why?”.” (he doesn’t speak great English, but point taken)
- “What kind of brainwash is this, I use SU so that makes me an SEO…? I don’t blog sites with ads on, made by my “friends” to generate “traffic” (i.e. money) from people on pages with no content and get all my “friends” who all subscribe to all the same sh*tty blogs that whine on about being persecuted (at the same time as having articles like “how to game social media sites for more traffic”), to thumb things up for me. Neither do I see any of this as a legitimate career, because (and this is the really important part you f***wits seem to miss) I HAVE A REAL JOB and use stumble to chill out when I am not trying to make money.”
Can we blame them?
Not all SEO blogs are teaching for money, or experiencing financial gain from their blog. I don’t have a job. Teaching SEO is something I do not get paid for. (at least so far) I learn and I pass it on. I chose to educate as I am being educated because it has been exciting for me.
Education is invaluable. Period. It’s what we do with it that is bad or good.
Am I responsible for the creation of street drugs, because I Stumbled chemistry pages? Is it my fault that he abused this education? (feel free to read the image text)
![]()
Am I responsible for the molestation of children because I Stumbled Day care training classes and a pervert saw the Stumble, visited the page and entered the class?
![]()
Am I responsible for the fact that Joe Blow split town with the money you paid him to perform a plumbing job because his plumbing education came from a school that I stumbled?

There are positive ways to use SEO to enhance and encourage the betterment of our planet.
How can we protect our environment?

Optimizing outside of Stumbleupon
If you have a non-profit interest concerning your environment, community causes (local or otherwise) why not consider using your SEO knowledge to drive traffic to sites that promote a healthier and more vibrant society.
Consider doing the work as a volunteer effort. A personal contribution. It doesn’t have to be for financial gain.
Various concerns locally and globally
Parental rights
Child abuse
Rape crisis
AIDS awareness
Environmental protection
Substance abuse treatment
Mental health awareness
Disease prevention/treatment
Boys and girls type of clubs
Gang prevention
etc
Optimizing in Stumbleupon
How to game social media sites for more traffic:
We can increase the amount of people that visit green-friendly, good-cause related sites by Stumbling AND REVIEWING sites that contain reference to these causes. (reviewing passes the post to your friends ‘What’s New’ box..
You can go to the SU search box, type in cause related keywords which will take you to a page that says “Such and Such (cause title) websites” then in the upper right hand side, there’s a clickable button that says, “I like pages about Such and Such”. Why do this? It places you avatar on that page, which optimizes the potential of other Stumblers with the same interests to find you later…slow but steady influx of friendship/resource building traffic if you intend to be a long-term stumbler.
You can review Stumblers that have these same interest, so as to promote and give them better coverage and page views. Don’t forget to give the ‘thumbs up’ when reviewing. (Eeek, I have a bad habit of forgetting to do that)
Even if you have reached your SU friend limit (200) you can still give them a review and offer to Stumble things for them by sending the link to your SU mailbox.
You can grab Stumblers feeds as you meet them which will enable you to keep up with their interests without them having to ask. (duh..just thought of that one)
You can add eye candy - image appeal to your thumbs-ups, and reviews to provide incentives for others to click and investigate.
You can optimize keywords in your reviews. Provide this for those who are otherwise unaware of what words/phrases to use in their queries (SU search box) to find these topics.
Examples:
- Eco
- Environment
- Conservation
- Child Endangerment
- Activism
- Etc
Tagging helps, but let’s face it..Sometimes people are poor taggers. They’ll tag a poop scooper ad as world news. Or, as the SU SEO haters do…SEO sites are tagged as porn or AIDS- which poorly affects SUs algorithms, making SU of lower quality and as showing irrelevant content in query results..
Innocent people are affected due to this ‘spam‘. When a person in need searches for AIDS articles that may help to connect him/her with resources that may save their lives (or at least improve it), they’ll have to sort through the crap that someone else put in their laps out of hatred.
PS: Also to be noted and taken seriously in SU..
Every time something is tagged inappropriately, SUs algorithm is affected. Your approval or disapproval of these tagged categories is essentially what lets SU know your ‘likes‘ and ‘dislikes‘. In return, your Stumble button will send you more pages on those categories you liked and less of those you did not approve of. Tag properly and give a thumbs up or down, and you will eventually see more or less of what it is you established as your niche. By abuse of the tags, we are inevitably screwing ourselves out of a more pleasurable experience in SU.
This applies to SEO/M’s as well! We do not need to avoid tagging our articles in the appropriate categories due to fear of those that may be negative about it. We have been told by SEO haters that if we tag in a category other than ‘marketing’ we will be throttled and abused by the terrorist groups. SEO is not MARKETING! Marketing is marketing! SEO is optimizing! Please, do what you’ve got to do to act responsibly.
Back to the original point, locally or globally we have a responsibility to care for our society and to make the world a better place to we have no right to complain about it not being as healthy as it could be.
Use SEO, Social Media, and marketing skills to nurture and enhance lives. (even for those who may not understand us well enough to approve of what we do.
Fyi..
When donating time and skill to a non-profit organization, our hours and skill cannot be used as a tax deduction. But, if there are out-of-pocket expenses incurred, Uncle Sam will allow for compensation. (software needed to perform keyword research, etc)

FAQs: Taxes
Deductions & Tax Liability
Question: “Why can’t I deduct “personal” interest expenses when I purchase a car, or for the interest on my credit cards? There is much talk about encouraging people to volunteer their time to help organizations that provide community services. Shouldn’t people who do volunteer work be provided with a tax deduction to compensate them for their donation?”
Answer: “Under current law, volunteers are prohibited from taking a charitable contribution deduction for the value of the services they provided to charities. However, the tax code does support volunteer work for charitable organizations by allowing volunteers to take a charitable contribution deduction for expenses they incur in connection with their volunteer services, but the expenses must be ones the charity would otherwise have to incur, not personal expenses of the volunteer. For example, volunteers may deduct the cost of materials they donate for use in repairs to a church, supplies they use in leading activities at a day care center, or uniforms they wear when serving as nurses’ aides. However, volunteers may not deduct personal expenses such as meals eaten during a break in a local service project, transportation to and from a school where they donate their time, or child care expenses.”

It is great if true.
Why do you use Nintendo Wii as your name?
Your blog is of legally copied content and is supportive of blueunplugged[dot]com. (blockglobalwarming[dot]blogspot[dot]com)
(for example, you optimize the visibility of blueunplugged here: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Special:Contributions&target=Choicefreedom2000)
I’m unaware of blueunplugged donating to any green research. Could you provide proof of that? ( a link or two?)
Thanks..

ok, I’m back..I scaled the bottom of your post, which says,
“If you like, you are free to republish, adapt or translate the list and post it in your blog, website or forum as long as you give us credit with a link to the original source.
Thank you.”
THAT’S BOGUS. Do YOU know who the original source is? If so, you sure didn’t drop THEM a link did you?

Thanks dear for your reply
Doest not matter to me at any way. My intention is to bring awareness in the world for global warming and I don’t care that it is duplicate or not. I merely want that everybody knows about these facts and you know I got good response from 300 stumblers and you can see my frineds in one most of posing global warming blog which you are telling it is duplicate. I am agree that it is duplicate but it is not for self promotion it is for the welfare of mankind.
Thanks Dear

300 Stumblers??
Your SU profile:
“Choicefreedom
Jessica is a single woman from London, England, UK.
Likes 5 pages • 39 fans • Received 5 reviews”
From the 5 pages you liked, 4 of them are for mobile tech news, tips and tricks for mobile phones and Bluetooth for blueunplugged.
Unless you are gaming SU with multiple accounts that I am unaware of, you are minus 461 in your fan base and 295 in review base..actually 96 in review base..one of them is a negative review compliments of me.
The copied article is allowed under the current creative commons licensing..I am in full support of that, especially for the INTENT of enviro awareness.
What I DO NOT APPROVE OF, is that you did not give credit to the original source yourself! But you want others to give YOU a link back.
By the way, did you ever find a link or two that shows blueunplugged is an enviro good guy?
